Soon we'll be doing a task. By we, I mean my team which consists of myself, Olivia Needham and Phoebe Oldfield. The purpose is to get us used to using equipment and to become comfortable with being both behind and in front of the camera. Also it gives us a chance to use the camera techniques we've learnt about in class. Techniques such as:
This is used when in a scene there is action taking place and the camera cuts straight to the action (missing out the middle part of getting to the action). For example, Sarah and Ella are being filmed talking about classwork. Next minute they heard a commotion. At this point the camera cuts straight to John and Oliver who are fighting, and shows us what's going on. This is match on action.
This is when two people are having a conversation in a scene and the camera shot flicks from one person to the other. It is used to show the other persons reaction and helps to explain the context of the conversation.
When two people are having a conversation and shot/reverse shot is being used, it is important that the camera stays within 180 degrees around the person that the camera was initially being pointed at. Otherwise you cannot tell which direction the people are facing and/or if they are talking to each other. Lefts and rights can be switched. If this doesn't make sense (it was very hard to explain), here's a picture to help:
Hope that helped guys.
Now you know the basics I hope you will be anticipating the task to come, because I am:)
